What Should High School Look Like 2024-2032?

Salish is a middle school student who has a YouTube Channel. Technically its her dad’s channel but she’s on all of the shows. Her name is pronounced say lish rather than sail ish or sale ish.

She’s published some of her personal information on her channel which is besides the point but she has over 400 videos on her channel and probably does not want to lose rankings or views.

Soon she will be in high school and will probably change to another school. It’s pretty likely that it will happen.

The point of going to school for most people is learning how to work, learning how to get a job, learning how to live on your own and learning how to do a good job and get paid well.

Here’s some of her work videos. She already learned how to work a bunch of jobs while in middle school.

Career Exploration and Temp Jobs: Smoothie/Juice Crew Member, Barista, Waitress, Hair Stylist, Gym Instructor/Sports Coach, Fitness Coach/Personal Trainer, Journalist (for sports)/Sideline Announcer, Personal Assistant, Orthodontist, Chef/Cook, Therapist/Counselor/Psychologist.

Doctor (checkout her chemistry class for pharmaceuticals or food scientist, 0:45 to 1:45 first video on this page)

Business Owner/Managing Partner/General Manager or Assistant Manager.

Some of her videos aren't work related but demonstrate some viable job skills.

Actress/Music Performer/Makeup Artist or Designer/Costume Designer or Coordinator.

At the end of the day, its up to a person what they want to do for work and what they want to do as a hobby. Most jobs in 2023 are still 8 hour days transitioning to a 32 hour work week for full time and go up to 40 before being eligible for overtime pay.

Here is what a typical day looks like for Salish as a recent teenager:

Wakeup, workout, nap, exercise/stretch, breakfast, tv/read, shower, get ready, go outside (probably school or work), laundry some days, homework/study/chill, gardening, change clothes (jammies or jeans), evening activities, relax, sleep.

Evening activities can include: outings, exercise, parks, makeup tests, fashion, modeling, shopping, trying on clothes, napping, snacking, books, movies, music or media.

Some people just have a lot of energy to burn and others like to take things slow and enjoy/focus on one thing at a time.

School has not changed much over the past 50 to 60 years. Study lots of subjects, do a lot of homework, very short breaks and recess, find something to do outside of school when all your homework is done.

Lunch can vary by school, some don’t really have a school cafeteria because they have school restaurants or school food courts. Others only have cafeteria food and no concessions during break or lunch, only snacks you bring from home in your back pack. This can affect how you eat at home or outside of school.

So what should school look like from 2024-2032?

Well it depends on what the students expect their life to look like when they are done with school.

Once you're done with school, there’s a lot more school for some people. Trade school, college, jr. college, university, community college and graduate school; in addition to professional studies.

For some people, its just high school and then work until 65 or until you get a little bit older.

When a little bit older is, depends on how soon you find a job and if you will go to adult school (college et al).

It sucks being an adult and graduating high school, then not finding a job, spending time trying to learn more, applying at places and then going to college and doing some interviews only to be told no, you can’t work here, at the moment. Or, probably not ever.

So who am I? And why am I writing about Salish?

Well, I’m an IT Professional and her videos came up on my internet feed as something interesting to watch. I think she’s kind of cool and she has a lot of videos about what normal people do in their everyday life:

  • Work
  • Study
  • Spend time with family
  • Have fun and do hobbies

The point of this blog post is that: What should high school look like from 2024 to 2032?

I’ve put together a checklist of things to learn so you’re ready to work and live on your own, live with room mates or stay with mom and dad and save money for a few years (hopefully not too long).

Things to learn checklist: https://socialmedia.joshuacuellar.net/informative-checklists/things-to-learn-while-in-high-school

Basically, there’s a few goals by the time a student is 16 years old:

  • Have a debit card.
  • Review bank statements with mom and dad or with school finance counselor.
  • Get some part time jobs with direct deposit.
  • Hopefully buy a car, or at least a few video games with the work money.
  • Save some money for the 1st apartment (roommates or solo).

Some of these things will start at 16 and go through 18 but some states let you work at 14 years old under FLSA and you’ll likely be able to get a debit card and a checking account. If your parents pay your rent and buy your clothes, you’ll likely get to keep most of your money; making it easy to buy a car when you turn 16 if your parents allow it.

After graduation, its a good idea to talk to the school board or freshman student body about what worked, what didn’t, what left you unprepared, what prepared you extremely well and how things could have gone better. If possible its also a good idea to follow up with the school board later to see how things are progressing with the almost adults.

From there on out, its the adult world of 18 to 99 and for the most part things can be about the same for different people in different age groups. Some people are vastly different in the same age group and some age groups seem completely different in some areas because they are into completely different things like Elvis for some and Nirvana for others but some people are into all kinds of music, some video games and different types of sports activities so its harder to tell people apart by age group alone.

My name is Joshua Cuellar (obviously, from the site name) and I scored over an 1100 on the SATs in 7th grade and qualified for both Harvard and Yale right there and then, in 7th grade, but I was too young. So I dropped out of high school in 9th grade, to do independent studies, passed my G.E.D at 18 and enrolled in a Computer Technical College.

I did a little home studies and alternative ed during my high school years, mostly for paperwork and grade analysis. Usually got straight A’s, attended school just a few weeks a year, about 2-3 weeks per semester. Outside of school, a lot of my time was spent at the swimming pool or at the libary. Those were my favorite things in the world.

Anyways, the point of high school is to have fun, make friends, learn to budget with after school jobs and have fun. Some parents charge their kids little bit of rent if they work part time and ground them when they can’t make the payment. It helps with preparation for when they're not around. A lot of friends that grew up like this turned out super responsible

I personally feel that general ed should be a little bit of math, some writing, lots of reading, student body and of course P.E., nutrition is helpful to make planned visits to the doctor productive. Electives and should be tied to:

  • Jobs that seem cool
  • Things that seem fun to do during time off

professional development/personal development

Hope this is helpful to everyone that watches her show
