Fantasy Worlds and Popular Culture

You are here: /announcements/fantasy-worlds-and-popular-culture

Science fiction is sometimes based on vague concepts of reality. What are the materials necessary for a spaceship to withstand orbit and re-entry? What are the dietary requirements for a human to survive a 6 month journey to Mars traveling at several thousand miles per hour? Vague concepts would outline generic ideas on how to achieve such a vision.

When it comes to dating, there are definitely changes in patterns of what people consider attractive, acceptable, and desirable for a partner or casual date.

Concepts can be examined in cartoon characters which sometimes focus on personality and expression, and not so much on physical appearance.

  • Mystique and Wolverine
  • Link and Midna
  • Knuckles and Tails
  • Pointman and Alma Wade
  • Xavier and Jeanne-Grey
  • Incredible Hulk and Storm

There are various combinations of characters that can be put into a make believe relationship and examined for personality, similarity, likability, and expression. This can be individually, together, near each other, and apart. The goal is to examine the relationship when the couple is together and away from each other.

What are some characters from T.V. shows, movies, video games, or cartoons that you can put together into a make believe couple. How does this compare to your fantasy date or relationship? What is perfect? What needs to be changed? What works well? What can be done better? Who most resembles the other person in the relationship and who do you most relate to?
